Goodweigh's comment on the Kassa program broadcast (February 28, 2026)

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, the Kassa program covered digital obesity treatment, featuring the approach used by Goodweigh. Critical journalism is essential in a democratic society, as it promotes transparency and the improvement of healthcare. We fully support this.
However, we are concerned that the Kassa program’s reporting creates a misleading and inaccurate impression. It suggests that doctors act frivolously, carelessly, or dishonestly, which is factually incorrect. Publicly questioning the professional integrity of doctors strikes at the very foundation of the doctor-patient relationship: trust. This trust is crucial for safe and effective care, and undermining it can have far-reaching consequences for both the patient and the healthcare provider.
Diligence is key
Goodweigh has developed a rigorous care pathway together with its affiliated doctors and pharmacists precisely because this is digital healthcare.
Our care pathway adheres to the following principles, among others:
- Every treatment begins with a comprehensive medical screening.
- A qualified doctor evaluates the initial screening, the patient's medical history, and current medication, and checks for any potential contraindications.
- Medication verification is conducted via the Landelijk Schakelpunt (LSP).
- If necessary, the patient is contacted further via the personal portal chat or by phone.
- In cases of uncertainty, written approval is requested from the primary treating physician (such as a neurologist or cardiologist), or a consultation is held with the patient's own family doctor or practitioner.
- Patients are regularly denied medication if its use is not medically justified.
- Alongside any potential medical treatment, every patient is invited to receive guidance from a lifestyle coach via video call(s) to work on structural lifestyle changes. The questionnaires oncheckoorzakenovergewicht.nl form the basis for this guidance.
- Patients always have access to a personal portal where they can contact the medical team directly, track their progress, and receive guidance on improving their lifestyle.
- If a prescription is sent to a pharmacy, the pharmacy performs an independent and supplementary check to ensure that the medication can be provided safely and justifiably.
- When a patient provides consent, we share medication information via the Goodweigh service with other healthcare professionals through the Landelijk Schakelpunt (LSP). Additionally, in all cases, the patient is provided with a letter that they can use to inform their own doctor and pharmacy about their Goodweigh treatment.
- Every four weeks, a regular medical assessment is conducted, during which the doctor evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment, treatment adherence, and side effects, and adjusts the treatment medically if necessary.
This care pathway is by no means an automated or arbitrary process; it is a carefully designed procedure that includes individual medical assessment and verification at every stage.
A different picture than what was presented
The Kassa program broadcast presents an image that we do not recognize as our own, and it ignores the professionalism and integrity with which we operate. We work daily with qualified doctors, pharmacists, and lifestyle coaches who are committed to helping people who are severely overweight or obese and suffer from conditions that carry significant health risks and societal impacts.
To date, we have guided thousands of people through their treatment journey. For many of them, this marked the first effective step toward improving their health and quality of life.
However, this does not mean that we are not always open to improvements. Constructive feedback helps us further optimize our care, and we do so whenever possible.
