Weight-loss medication reports are on the rise: what does this mean for you?
.avif)
You may have heard about this in the media: last year, the National Poisons Information Centre (NVIC) received nearly twice as many reports of health issues related to the use of weight-loss medications.
This naturally raises questions, especially if you have already started treatment or are considering it. That is why we want to explain what these reports mean and why proper medical supervision is so important.
Where do these reports come from?
A large proportion of the reported poisonings are linked to weight-loss medications that people have ordered without medical supervision, for example from illegal or unregulated suppliers.
In such situations, there is often no doctor to assess whether the medication is suitable for the individual, there is no medical follow-up, and the exact composition of the product is not always clear. This increases the risk of misuse and the danger of health problems.
Retatrutide (also known as "Triple G") is one example of this. This product is not currently approved as a medication anywhere in the world. Therefore, products currently sold under this name are not officially registered medicines. Goodweigh does not offer this medication.
So, are GLP-1-based medications safe?
Yes, provided they are prescribed and used correctly.
GLP-1-based medications have been thoroughly studied and are prescribed worldwide for the treatment of obesity and diabetes. As with any medication, side effects can occur. That is why it is important that treatment is monitored under medical supervision, with regular check-ups and the opportunity to ask questions.
The recent figures highlight the importance of this medical supervision in particular.
How does Goodweigh ensure the safety of treatment?
At Goodweigh, safety is our top priority from the very beginning.
Before starting treatment, a doctor registered in the BIG register assesses whether the treatment is medically justified and suitable for your specific situation. Throughout the entire treatment process, you are under medical supervision. We assess your progress every four weeks, and you can always contact us if you have questions about your dosage, side effects, or treatment.
Your medication is supplied exclusively by an approved Dutch pharmacy and comes from official pharmaceutical distribution channels. Goodweigh is listed in the official register of online medicine suppliers, which is linked to the Dutch pharmacy we partner with. This register shows which suppliers operate legally and in accordance with Dutch regulations. Our registration can be viewed via this link.

Furthermore, the success of the treatment is not limited to medication alone. That is why you also receive support from a lifestyle coach, who specifically helps you with:
- adopting a healthy and balanced diet;
- maintaining muscle mass during weight loss;
- getting enough exercise and adopting healthy and sustainable lifestyle habits.
In summary
Recent announcements highlight, above all, the importance of using weight-loss medications exclusively under medical supervision and through reliable, official channels. At Goodweigh, we combine medical monitoring, an approved Dutch pharmacy, and personalized support so you can work toward your health goals safely and responsibly.
